The book portrays a very realistic look at how disasters like this can bring out the best and the worst of society. Oil and food prices were already at levels making normal life difficult for those on the lower rungs of the ladder. Resource scarcity exacerbates the problems caused by the economy and the earthquake. The earthquake also triggers an economic collapse that was just waiting for a catalyst. The story follows the protagonist, John, as he fights to get home to his family after a major earthquake in the New Madrid Seismic Zone.
I saw very little profanity, no F-bombs and he never used God’s holy name as a swear word. Nathan Hale Jefferson has also proven that an author doesn’t have to use a lot of vulgar and filthy language to write a great dystopian novel. Author Nathan Jefferson Hale has written a post apocalyptic thriller that won’t let you put the book down.
