My son sat on my lap as I wrote this review and he wanted me to say how much he also enjoyed Bear Snores On. The illustrations add to the story, as does the type face. Even a wren shows up! The writing is fluid, rhythmic, and fun. I also loved the creative choices for which animals joined the party. From a bit of suspense – what if the bear wakes up? – to the joy of friendship. Bear Snores On is both simple and nuanced. Many of the others tended toward shallow stories or overt messages. Of the handful of books I’ve borrowed so far for reading to my son, this has been my favorite. It is an adorable board book about a group of woodland creatures who have a party in the bear’s den while he snores on. One of the first books we borrowed together was Bear Snores On by Karma Wilson and Jane Chapman. Now that I have a child of my own, we get to visit there often. I have always loved the children’s section of a library.
